Why processing locally matters

Every mainstream online video tool works the same way: you upload your file, their servers do the work, and you download the result. That model is fine for a holiday clip and genuinely unsuitable for a client interview, an unreleased edit, a patient recording, or anything covered by an NDA. MediaVault removes the upload step entirely, which removes the question of what happens to your file afterwards.

No upload wait

A 2GB file starts processing immediately instead of after a 2GB transfer.

No size caps

There is no server quota to enforce, so your own memory is the only limit.

No watermarks

Output is exactly what FFmpeg produces, with no branding added on top.

No retention

Nothing is stored because nothing is ever sent. Close the tab and it is gone.

How it works

  1. Pick a tool and drop in your file. The file is read into your browser's memory — the same way opening a document works — not sent anywhere.
  2. The engine runs on your machine. FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly handles video and audio work; OpenAI's Whisper model handles transcription.
  3. Save the result to disk. The output is written straight to your downloads folder. Close the tab and no trace of the job remains.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Every tool reads your file into browser memory and processes it on your own CPU using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. No copy of your media is transmitted to a server at any point.

Is MediaVault free?

Yes, with a daily allowance. The free tier covers 2 media operations per day and the small Whisper transcription model. Pro removes the daily limit and unlocks HD exports and larger AI models.

Does it work offline?

After the first load the processing engine is cached, so the tools continue to work without a connection. Only account features such as billing need the network.

Do I need to install anything?

No. MediaVault runs in a normal browser tab on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. There is no desktop app to install and no extension to add.

How is this different from an online video converter?

Typical online converters upload your file to their servers, process it there, and hand back a link — often with a watermark, a size cap, and retention terms you did not read. MediaVault never performs that upload, so there is no cap, no watermark, and no third-party copy of your footage.
